Would I want a Cantonese opera singer? I attended a workshop at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum and found the answer to that question. I learned there are 350 types of Chinese opera, each based another Chinese dialect. Cantonese opera is the most common genre in Hong Kong. The young woman who was our instructor opera workshop was to study opera for five years. She told us that she was still a beginner. It takes more than twenty years to a really good performer. This explains why many "opera stars" are over the age of fifty. Our guide has taught us how to distinguish between male and female, and comic and tragic opera characters by their clothes, make-up, voices and movements of the body.
After she had introduced us to the plot line of an opera we tip toed into a theater where an opera was in progress and saw it for about twenty minutes. The female character sang in a falsetto voice all the time. The singers do not always seem to know where the tune of their song led them and the audience talked the whole performance. Later, our guide told us there are no written or designated Notes in Chinese opera scripts. Actors are provided with only one set of texts. The singers make up the melody as they go along. The tradition of female characters in a falsetto voice is a ancient tradition that derives from a time when only male performers were on stage. They used a falsetto voice sound feminine. A Chinese opera is evidently performed as a tribute to the gods. Since the gods are the intended audience, the human ear can talk and even eat or play games like chess or mahjong while the opera is going on without insulting the performers.
The second part of our journey took us through a museum where the exhibition we saw opera costumes. They are very elegant and very expensive to make. Our guide explained the thick face paint worn by characters. Evil villains usually wear white make-up, while good heroes have predominantly red faces. The museum had a computer up that allows you to make-up and costume of a classical opera character. You choose a character, positioned on your face the screen and then waited on your face to appear in the costume and make-up of that character. I chose a Warrior Woman. I thought I was beautiful in my Cantonese opera persona and even took a picture of myself.
Although I thought I looked very powerful and exotic in my costume I found out various things about Chinese opera singers during the workshop that I would think twice about how. Cantonese operas between four and five hours long. Actors have to memorize thousands of lines. Opera costumes many kilos and female performers wearing narrow toed, high heeled shoes. Most performances be held outside in the humid heat. Although it was nice to learn more about Cantonese opera and even see how I would look like a Chinese opera singer, I do not think I want one.

Looking for a specific newspaper comic strip.?
I am looking for a cartoon that appeared in a newspaper of Middle East (do not remember what country) about a month and a half before it has caused outrage and ultimately lead to the destruction of a newspaper office. Can someone point me where this is available? Thank you.
That is probably what http://www.zombietime.com/mohammed_image_archive/jyllands-posten_cartoons/ you refer.
